The chart below compares current UK Campus Housing pricing 2011-12 with Wassmer Properties off campus alternatives. Live alone without the hassle and distraction of a roommate for almost $75.00 per month LESS than the cost of a UK dorm room with a roommate.

Cost per month is gotten by taking the UK semester cost of Housing Only (the figures below DO NOT INCLUDE THE DINING PLAN which adds $1,121.00 per semester) and dividing by four (4) months, August 21, 2011 till December 21, 2011. For 2011 -2012, the cost of one half a dorm room with utilities on campus will be over $563.00 per month! Based on these new 2011-2012 UK Housing Rates the University is now charging over $1,125.00 per month for a dorm room with double occupancy.

Other Things to Consider

Wassmer Properties all have private bedrooms, while UK Campus Housing doubles have shared bedrooms.

UK Campus Housing utilizes common bathrooms — often a walk down a long hallway.

Generally, UK Campus Housing has no cooking facilities.

Parking

UK Campus Housing residents with cars are required to purchase a parking permit. Student parking permits for the 2010-2011 school year (8 months) are $248.00 per year for C-, R- and K-permits which equals a fee of $31.00 per month. At Wassmer Properties all our buildings have there own parking lots and a parking permit is included for each roommate in the monthly rent. Even with a permit at the UK parking lots (K lots), there is no guarantee of available parking. In some parking lots, students must remove their cars for special events like home football games.

Parking on the UK campus is strictly enforced. Towing is expensive. Unpaid tickets can result in financial holds being placed on your registration, grades, and transcripts.
